Case Management is relied on in a variety of therapeutic and support contexts to respond to the complex needs of clients, but how should social workers approach case management in a school environment specifically?

Schools are complex organizations with unique support structures and ways of working. Social workers and other support professionals find working with students brings individualized considerations for their health and well-being, rights to privacy and confidentiality, and reporting obligations to the school and families. This ultimately means social work practice in a school environment will have its own distinct expectations, aims, and ideas of best practice for supporting school-aged clients.

This webinar discusses contemporary case management practice in school settings, including a brief examination of case management principles, stages, and processes.

Building on this understanding, the role, and contributions of social workers in school-based case management will be analyzed.

Through case studies drawn from the presenter’s own experience as a high school-based social worker, participants will be invited to apply a’ systems thinking ‘approach to social work practice and consider methods for ‘implementing’ case management processes in a school setting.

Systems acknowledge the interconnectedness of people's lives and the influences around them. Using a systems perspective in School Case management practice, specifically drawing on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems approach, enables practitioners to understand and respond to complex needs of their clients.

The case studies will demonstrate how to implement case management processes within school drawing on this thinking.

Who should register? Social workers and allied health practitioners or support professionals who work in schools, ECEI (early childhood early intervention) or with school-aged young people are encouraged to attend. This webinar will be valuable for social workers of all levels of experience, including graduates and those not already working in schools.
